ในปัจจุบันนี้ความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางด้านเทคโนโลยีเป็น ไปอย่างรวดเร็ว หลายๆ หน่วยงานในภาคการศึกษาได้มีการนำอุปกรณ์คอมพิวเตอร์แ ละซอฟต์แวร์ต่างๆ มาช่วยในการเรียนการสอนและทำงานวิจัยของหลายๆ สาขาวิชาเช่น ทางด้านวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ และวิทยาศาสตร์ เป็นต้น โปรแกรมภาษา MATLAB ถือว่าเป็นซอฟต์แวร์ที่เป็นที่นิยมกันมากสำหรับการคำ นวณเชิงตัวเลขและแสดงผล กราฟริกที่ซับซ้อน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งสำหรับผู้ที่ทำงานทางด้านวิศวกรรมแ ละวิทยาศาสตร์ อย่างไรก็ตามโปรแกรม MATLAB เป็นโปรแกรมที่ต้องเสียเงินค่าลิขสิทธิ์ของซอฟต์แวร์ ซึ่งมีราคาแพงมาก ทำให้ผู้คนจำนวนมากเสียโอกาสที่จะศึกษาและเรียนรู้กา รใช้งานโปรแกรมนี้เพื่อ นำช่วยในการทำงานของตนเอง
